It is with deep sadness, that we share the news of the transition to eternal glory of our beloved Brother Dominic Ehrmantraut – FSC. Brother Dominic, a founding father of Lwanga District passed away on Friday 10 th July 2026 in Memphis Tennessee at the age of 83.
He was born Frederic E. Ehrmantraut on June 4, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri. He received the Religious Habit in August 1963, in Winona, Minnesota and pronounced his Perpetual Vows – in 1971 in West St. Paul, Minnesota.
We remember Brother Dominic in a special way because He leaves behind a lasting legacy of faithful service to the Lasallian mission in Lwanga District. A man who laid the foundation of the District, bringing to it robust infrastructural bedrock for the operation of district formation houses and institutions across the district earns his place in our hearts. It was He who revolutionized the path to indigenous leadership for the African Brothers in the District, and provided the necessary scholarship for the religious and professional preparation for this transition. He constantly reminded the indigenous Brothers that the time for the local institute was now! Brother Dominic mobilized the financial resources for an endowment that has been a big life line to the district and 29 years latter most of our donor connections are courtesy of this selfless leader.
He served in Lwanga District from 1997 to 2009. As Brother Visitor: 1997 to 2006, Interim Director of Christ the Teacher Institute for Education: 2006 to 2007, as the Principal of Tangaza College from 2007-2009. He also served as the Director of the Scholasticate Nairobi.
Brother Dominic's memory remains a guiding light, inspiring us to serve the Lasallian mission with the same selflessness he so beautifully demonstrated.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace- Amen
