Our Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, gave a new meaning to the school by making it accessible to the poor and offering it to all as a sign of the Kingdom and means of salvation.
The Christian school is the preferred field for the activity of the Brothers and Lasallian Colleagues. But our Institute also explores other possibilities for education more adapted to the needs of time and place.
The Lwanga District carries this mission across six countries in East and West Africa — Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, and South Africa — rooted in Kenya, our District headquarters, and united by decades of shared Lasallian identity and steady growth.

Three Centuries of Impact

Pope Benedict XIII grants formal approval of the Institute through a Papal Bull — establishing the Brothers as a recognised congregation of the Catholic Church.
Lwanga
The Lwanga District was established to carry the Lasallian mission across Africa, and today unites Brothers, lay colleagues, and communities in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, and South Africa, with its headquarters in Kenya.
Today
The Brothers minister together with over 73,000 lay colleagues to more than 900,000 students in 80 countries — including six nations in the Lwanga District of Africa.
